The countdown has started and will finish this Saturday, 7th April with the kick-off of the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO on the city circuit of Marrakech. This first meeting on Moroccan soil is a new major and thrilling step for the Belgian team.
Already extremely active at the highest level of rallying and the TCR Europe Championship in 2016 and 2017, DG Sport Compétition is increasing the pace through entering two PEUGEOT 308 TCR in this brand new international series, which promises to be highly promising and keenly contested, a challenge that Christian Jupsin’s team are ready to take on. “Following the example of our rivals, we’re impatiently awaiting the actual start of the season”, the man in charge of DG Sport Compétition explained. “The recent tests held in Barcelona have whet our appetite but nothing can take the place of a race and we can’t wait to get to the cut of the chase.”
No other PEUGEOT 308 TCR will be competing in this Cup. In the hands of Aurélien Comte (n°7) and Mat’o Homola (n°70), the two cars — whose white-red-grey livery has turned out particularly well — passed their entry examination with flying colours during the official tests in Catalonia: “Indeed so, these first runs went smoothly seeing the PEUGEOT 308 TCR machines experienced no technical issues. Our thanks and hats off to Peugeot Sport who produced brilliant development work. It is now up to us to make them win! “Christian Jupsin added. “And we are pretty confident because we have at our disposal a promising package with a top performing car, two motivated drivers and a top level technical and sports team. But there is still one unknown: the Balance Of Performance (BOP) which must level out the performances of the models battling it out. This parameter will have a specific importance in the case of the PEUGEOT 308 TCR, because it is the only car on the grid powered by a 1.6 turbo engine. Let us hope that the BOP fully plays its part so that Mat’o and Aurélien will have the opportunity to make the DG Sport Compétition colours shine brightly in this WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO. »
Similar to all meetings of the FIA WTCR OSCARO, the FIA WTCR Afriquia Race of Morocco held on the city circuit Moulay El Hassan of Marrakech on 7th and 8th April will be broadcast partly live on Eurosport and in total live on the social media networks and on the official website https://www.fiawtcr.com/.
Worth noting that one of the eight on-board cameras will be fitted to the PEUGEOT 308 TCR n°7 driven by Aurélien Comte!
